Since 1941, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) has been dedicated to advancing patient care and digestive health by promoting excellence and innovation in gastrointestinal endoscopy. ASGE, with more than 12,000 members worldwide, promotes the highest standards for endoscopic training and practice, fosters endoscopic research, recognizes distinguished contributions to endoscopy, and is the foremost resource for endoscopic education. ASGE physicians have highly specialized training in endoscopic procedures of the digestive tract, including upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). ASGE is the only medical society that requires documentation of specific training in GI endoscopic procedures.
Established in 1946 the College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the leading organization of board-certified pathologists, serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide. CAP accredits the entire spectrum of laboratory test disciplines with the most scientifically rigorous customized checklist requirements. The CAP’s peer-based inspector model provides a unique balance of regulatory and educational coaching supported by the most respected worldwide pathology organization. The Laboratory Accreditation Program inspects a variety of laboratory settings including physician office laboratories such as ours, and covers a complete array of disciplines and testing procedures. Jackson Siegelbaum Gastroenterology received accreditation through May, 2016.
Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC) is a private, non-profit organization formed in 1979 to assist ambulatory health care organizations such as our West Shore Endoscopy Center (WSEC), in improving the quality of care provided to patients. Accreditation is an external, independent review of our organization against nationally-accepted standards and our own policies, procedures, processes and outcomes. AAAHC accreditation means that we participate in on-going self-evaluation, peer review and education to continuously improve our patient care and services. We also commits to a thorough, on-site survey by AAAHC surveyors, who are themselves health care professionals, at least every three years. WSEC recently received reaccreditation through January, 2018.
