Miscellaneous Images of the Esophagus
Image 1
Inlet Patch
The lining of the esophagus is different from that of the stomach which must resist the harsh acid that the stomach normally secretes. The stomach lining is of deeper red color than the whitish pink esophagus. On occasion and for reasons unknown, a patch of stomach lining will be found in the upper esophagus. It is an incidental finding, does not cause symptoms and only rarely requires further follow up.
