		Anatomic Features Image 1 Image 2 Rectal Varicose Veins Cirrhosis of the liver and a few other conditions result in blockages in the liver. The veins leading from the intestines to the liver become swollen as the pressure within builds up, much like a dam across a stream. These swollen veins, really like varicose veins in the legs, most often cause problems in the esophagus or food pipe where they are prone to rupture and bleed. The veins in the rectum also can become swollen. Here are 2 unusual images showing twisting dilated veins in the rectum. Although unusual, these can bleed also. Related Conditions Cirrhosis
